Farming Boot Camp for Veterans
This one-of-a-kind experiential training initiative is designed to educate and empower veterans with lessons in farming, homesteading and sustainability. The goal is to provide this five-day crash course completely free of charge for all veterans accepted into the program.
Topics include organic farming, bee keeping, mushrooms, off-grid energy systems, animal husbandry, yoga, food preservation, composting, plant propagation, medicinal herbs, and other lessons on holistic health and sustainability.
We are currently in the process of building a state-of-the-art community center in Hendersonville, NC. Named in honor of US Marine Corporal Joshua A McArdle, this facility will allow us to host our "Permaculture Boot Camp for Veterans", open to all post-9/11 veterans.
The bunkhouse and kitchen are made from two retrofitted shipping containers and have been connected together by a large wooden deck. The unit is completely self-sustaining and off-grid, using solar power for both heating and electricity.
We are currently finishing up the final stage of construction and plan to host our first boot camp program in the spring of 2017.
